Troubled Brazilian operator Oi has been declared bankrupt by a Rio de Janeiro court. Failure to comply with a court-approved restructuring plan, ratified in 2024, and the accumulation of debt not subject to bankruptcy rules were two of the main reasons cited by the judge involved for declaring the company bankrupt. Multinational telecommunications corporation Orange and satellite operator Eutelsat have announced the inauguration of a new teleport hosting Eutelsat's satellite gateway in the Caribbean island Martinique. This strategic project aims to strengthen satellite coverage for the Eutelsat OneWeb constellation in the Caribbean region.

Last week, Hurricane Melissa devastated Jamaica and swept through other islands in the Caribbean including Cuba, leaving a trail of destruction in its wake. Melissa was a Category 5 storm, the most intense to make Atlantic landfall for 90 years according to Agence France Press.
