  • Except where priority editing add-on is purchased you will receive a rough cut to make minor edits and for final approval a few days after recording.
  • Standard turn round time to finished video is 7 working days from date of filming. Requests for significant post production editing will incur additional time.

Special Report: Open RAN

txtOpen RAN

For years, operators have complained that ‘vendor lock-in’ constitutes an enforced removal of free competition that drives up prices – a particular factor in emerging markets, where service providers can typically expect high deployment costs on top of low ARPU. Operators argue that they should be free to select their network equipment on an a la carte basis – but how practicable is this, and would it genuinely save them significant amounts?

While there are many contrasting opinions on the viability of Open RAN, there is a groundswell of support for the technology among operators in low-income markets who are keen to maximise their profitability. But does Open RAN really offer them the freedom to deploy their networks as they see fit, or does it create more problems than it solves? Our report will offer opinions from all schools of thought from industry analysts and stakeholders.

The report will aim to answer questions including:

What are the key technical and operational challenges Open RAN needs to overcome to dramatically increase uptake in emerging markets?

Do the cost benefits of Open RAN outweigh the challenges presented by the technology – particularly in emerging markets?

How will greater disaggregation of Radio Access Networks impact the industry – and operator attitudes towards their suppliers – going forward?

Special Report: Fintech

txtFintech

For emerging markets in particular, there is perhaps no better demonstration of the power of technology to revolutionise society and empower individuals than the success of mobile financial services. Taking advantage of the ubiquity of mobile phones, in a relatively short timeframe mobile fintech has radically overhauled the definition of financial inclusion, offering convenience, security and an entirely new way of thinking about money in regions that previously relied exclusively on cash.

However, there is much more to fintech than mobile money – and emerging markets are ready to embrace the possibilities enabled by a fresh approach to finance. With innovative technologies ready to rethink finance from the ground up for enterprises and individuals, our report aims to explore current trends and identify forthcoming use cases for financial technology services

Key questions posed by the report include:

How can the fintech space become more competitive given that the sector typically sees one service become dominant in its market?

What are the new fintech services that will drive the sector forward in the next 3-5 years?

How can fintech firms expand their offerings to encompass other financial services while remaining affordable and relevant to low-income markets?

Special Report: The Road to 5G

txtDT Logos Text7

While 5G is firmly established in many European and Asian markets, it is still in its incipience across much of the world – particularly in emerging markets, where operators are not yet able to make the benefits outweigh the costs.

Given that 5G’s use cases are weighted towards data, it makes sense for 5G deployment to focus on urban population centres as an enabler for IoT and Smart City solutions – but given that many of these solutions can only reach their full potential via 5G, operators in low-income markets could be forced to gamble on take-up being strong enough to merit deployment.

This report aims to collect insight from operators, analysts and other industry stakeholders as we explore how 5G can be deployed practically and cost-effectively in emerging markets in order to address connectivity challenges endemic to these regions.

Expanding 5G coverage beyond urban population centres will almost certainly not be the factor that helps the technology become financially viable in emerging markets – this report will explore how operators can monetise the technology in other ways to help achieve widespread deployment and coverage.

Special Report: Cybersecurity

Developing Telecoms Cybersecurity report addresses one of the most important issues for telecom operators and service providers in 2021 and beyond. The huge rise in mobile network traffic and growth of home working since the start of the Covid-19 global pandemic has been mirrored by a rise in the range, scope and quantity of cybersecurity exploits and attacks.

MNOs are at the heart of successful cybersecurity strategy in emerging markets. However, the challenges they face are unique. The vast majority of enterprises and consumers depend exclusively on wireless access, while a higher proportion of their customers are likely to be less savvy about cyber risks.

Moreover, due to highly competitive markets and more limited resources, MNOs in emerging market are more likely to deploy equipment from multiple vendors, use less up-to-date equipment and software, and operate multi-generational (2G/3G/4G/5G) networks. This unique combination of factors means that cyber-attackers have identified operators in emerging markets as a weak link.

Unique and Authoritative

This is the first report to examine telecom cybersecurity exclusively from the perspective of emerging markets telecom operators. Targeted at C-level executives, security specialists and other stakeholders at operators, service providers, data centres, governments and major enterprises in emerging markets globally, it will provide readers with a range of specialist insight, actionable intelligence and practical solutions. Contributors include at least ten leading independent cybersecurity analysts*, experts from leading industry trade body, the GSMA, and market leading solutions vendors.
