MTN event aims to empower Africa’s SMEs

MTN aims to empower Africa’s SMEs

It’s a bold claim, even for a pan-Africa service provider, but MTN this week launched what it called SME Day, with the stated aim of empowering over 40 million small businesses across the African continent.

The two-day event, featuring a combination of physical and online components, brought together industry experts, thought leaders and innovative solutions to support the success of African businesses.

Scheduled to take place from the 23rd to the 24th of May 2023 at the company’s 14th Avenue Innovation Centre, this event served as a platform for SMEs to connect, learn and showcase their products and services to a broader audience.

It featured a live exhibition of SMEs and partner solutions, engaging activities such as the highly anticipated JumpStarter funding competition and keynote speeches from influential industry figures.

A live exhibition allowed selected SMEs  to showcase their innovative products and services to potential customers, investors, and partners.

MTN says its commitment to supporting SMEs extends beyond the event itself. The company’s suite of services, including MoMo (Mobile Money), Digital, Ayoba, and Chenosis, were showcased during the event, demonstrating how these platforms can empower SMEs with convenient and secure financial transactions, digital marketing solutions, communication tools, and access to a broader customer base.

With this event, MTN says it aims to position itself as the leading brand dedicated to supporting the growth and success of over 40 million African SMEs through targeted development programmes and a comprehensive range of services.
