Indosat provides disaster relief to Jakarta flood victims

Ooredoo’s Indonesian operator Indosat lent support to ongoing disaster relief efforts this week in Jakarta in the wake of severe floods affecting the city’s communities.

The operator and its parent company have mobilised their mobile clinics, operated in partnership with the Leo Messi Foundation, to provide free health services at 11 of the most severely affected locations across the city.

The clinics, Mobil Klinik Ceria, are providing medical assistance and emergency aid, similar to the emergency services they provided during the 2013 and 2014 Jakarta floods, through the delivery of primary healthcare services for the flood victims as well as the arrangement of food distribution for young children under the age of five. The number of beneficiaries is expected to be in excess of 1000 people.

“During this challenging time for Jakarta residents, we are glad to be able to provide assistance to the local community through our mobile clinics.  We hope our efforts will bring relief to those affected and assist in speeding up the post-flood recovery process”, said Dr. Nasser Marafih, Group CEO, Ooredoo.

Alexander Rusli, CEO and President Director of Indosat added: “We are deeply concerned for those who homes have been flooded.  We hope that the presence of our mobile clinics, and the free healthcare services and logistical support they are providing, will help ease the burden of those affected.  We hope that the situation improves soon and the flood waters recede so that recovery work can begin as soon as possible.”

In 2013 and 2014, Ooredoo and Indosat provided immediate assistance and emergency aid to those affected by severe flooding, working with local partners to deliver relief on the ground in affected areas as well as offering free access to mobile services, including data, SMS and voice to those affected.  In 2012, Ooredoo also aided Indonesian victims of the volcanic eruption of Mount Merapi, which forced the evacuation of 350,000 people.
