IHS Towers acquires Centennial in third Lat Am tower deal

IHS Towers is boosting its footprint in Latin America with the acquisition of Centennial Towers’ operations in Brazil and Colombia.

The deal provides IHS with a further 602 towers in Brazil and 217 in Colombia, although CommsUpdate reports that Centennial’s 800 towers in Mexico are not part of the agreement. IHS is pursuing a strategy of growth via acquisitions in the region, having last year purchased Brazilian firms Skysites and Cell Site Solutions.

IHS Towers has developed complete ecosystems around its towers, including green energy, backhaul, monitoring, and active equipment. The firm intends to leverage these across its new Latin American markets, while folding in Centennial’s expertise on a wide range of infrastructure solutions including distributed antenna systems and small cells.

Sam Darwish, IHS Chairman and Group Chief Executive Officer, said: “Latin America remains a key region for us with its high growth potential and, through these transactions, we will continue to increase our market presence and build on the momentum sparked by our initial entry into the region last year with the acquisition of Cell Site Solutions.”
