AIS chalks up another court victory against CAT

Thailand’s Supreme Administrative Court ruled that market leader AIS is not required to pay any additional compensation to state provider CAT Telecom.

The two operators have been embroiled in legal disputes for many years, with this particular case relating to a revenue-sharing agreement from 2008. CAT was seeking THB2.45 billion ($76 million) plus interest from AIS’ Digital Phone unit – an appeal after its previous bid was rejected by the lower Arbitral Tribunal.

AIS has been on a winning streak of late, having won a related arbitration case against CAT in January this year. The operator also won the backing of Thailand’s Central Administrative Court and Arbitration Institute in a compensation claim by TOT Telecom relating to a 900MHz licensing agreement.

In August last year, AIS and CAT resolved a separate longstanding disagreement with a five-year tower leaseback deal covering 155 sites.
