Long-awaited Telikom PNG and bmobile merger to close this month

The merger of Papua New Guinea’s state providers Telikom PNG and bmobile is reportedly on track to close by the end of this month.

Local news outlet The National quoted Telikom PNG’s acting CEO Amos Tepi as saying that the merger was “around 85% completed”. He went on to say: “We are just looking at the regulatory and legal aspects and once that is over, we are going over the line so we should meet the deadline.”

TeleGeography reports that plans to merge three of PNG’s state-owned entities were first revealed in February 2017. In addition to Telikom PNG and bmobile, the merger also aims to fold in wholesale operator PNG DataCo in order to boost efficiencies and create a vertically-integrated company.
