Reliance Jio added 1.7 million wireless subscribers in October, while rivals Bharti Airtel and Vodafone Idea (Vi) lost subscribers.
According to Telecom Regulatory Authority India (TRAI) October Subscribers Data, While Airtel lost 0.49 million subscribers, Vi lost 0.9 million Subscribers.
Overall the industry added 0.2 million (2.78 lakh) subscribers until 31st October 2021. The total number of telephone subscribers in India increased to 1,189.62 million (118.96 crores) at the end of October 2021, with a monthly growth rate of 0.04%.
The mobile subscriber base of Reliance Jio surged to 426.5 million in October. The subscriber base declined to 353.9 million. Vodafone Idea's user base dipped to 269 million in October.
Urban telephone subscription decreased to 658.83 million at the end of October 2021, but the rural subscription rose to 530.79 million during the same period, TRAI said.
“The overall teledensity in India decreased from 86.89% at the end of September’21 to 86.86% at the end of October’21,” TRAI said in its monthly subscription data.
Meanwhile, the total broadband subscribers increased to 798 million at the end of October 2021. As of 31 October 2021, the top five wireless broadband service providers were Reliance Jio Infocom (426 million), Bharti Airtel (204 million), Vodafone Idea (122 million), BSNL (19 million), and Tikona Infinet (3 million).
As of 31st October 2021, the private access service providers held 89.99% market share of the wireless subscribers whereas BSNL and MTNL, the two public sector unit (PSU) access service providers, had a market share of only 10.01%.
