Globe Telecom hails 5G rollout investment for data traffic boost

Philippines-based operator Globe Telecom recorded a “massive” boost in monthly data traffic on its 5G network last year, showing the fruit from its major investment into its network last year.

Globe claimed it had seen 27 times increase in monthly data traffic on 5G network in 2021, with the National Capital Region (NCR), Cebu, and Davao del Sur provinces making up the bulk of traffic. The operator recorded 6.71 petabytes of data used by subscribers, as 1.62 million devices connected to its 5G network.

Globe attributed the boost in data traffic from its network rollout across the Philippines, data promotions and budget 5G devices.

During its network rollout last year the company connected 2,0005G cell sites and upgraded 12,900 towers.

"5G allows us to serve the growing demand for high-speed mobile broadband, especially with the rise of data-intensive applications. It elevates our customers' digital lifestyle while boosting our network efficiency and effectiveness", said Globe Telecom vice president for program delivery Marge Dizon.
