Mexican quad-play (cable television, broadband internet, fixed telephony and mobile telephony) operator Megacable has come to an agreement with AT&T Mexico whereby it will to be able to use AT&T’s network.

This will allow it to expand its coverage nationwide, including 5G coverage, as well as expand the line of equipment compatible with its mobile services and offer roaming packages to the US and Canada.

Megacable already has an MVNO, called Mega Móvil, whose network traffic is hosted on infrastructure owned by Altan Redes, the consortium responsible for designing, developing, operating and marketing the wholesale network Red Compartida (known as the Network for Everyone). This arrangement will apparently continue.

[As regular readers will know](https://developingtelecoms.com/telecom-business/operator-news/12343-altan-redes-bankrupt-but-operations-will-continue.html), Altán Redes is currently going through a commercial bankruptcy process due to lack of liquidity and a massive debt. This may affect the operating and business model of the Red Compartida.

However, Megacable told local news service Expansión that the use of AT&T infrastructure has nothing to do with Altán's financial restructuring but is mainly because AT&T has greater coverage and allows customers to use iPhones and other cell phone models that are not approved in the Altán network.

Users who are under the Altán Redes network will not be able to use the AT&T network. Where there is no Altán coverage, they will use national roaming agreements with Telcel and Movistar.

Megacable has almost 500,000 mobile clients and offers services to its pay TV subscribers and the business market. Mega Móvil began operations in November 2019, making Megacable the first company in Mexico to offer quadruple-play services.
