Tanzania Telecommunications Corporation (TTCL) has signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with technology giant Huawei for the deployment of FTTH (fibre to the home), fixed wireless network (4G), and countryside deployment and expansion of mobile network and the fixed network.
According to local media reports, the signing ceremony was recently held in the United Arab Emirates on the occasion of Tanzania Day at Expo Dubai 2020 and was accompanied by several meetings and business seminars with companies investing in Tanzania. President Samia Suluhu Hassan was the guest of honour.
The state-owned operator’s Director-General Waziri Kindamba said the partnership is aimed at enabling both parties to work together in various areas of improvement, a step that would help the telco build capacity at a time when the country is undergoing a digital transformation.
Waziri said that his form's goal is to ensure that every person is connected with speedy and quality internet services. He added that cooperation with Huawei comes at the right time, as it will go a long way towards digitising the country.
Huawei Tanzania Managing Director, Damon Zhang, said the company’s commitment to partner with TTCL is a result of their realisation that infrastructure is of paramount importance in the development of the communications sector in the country.
