Thai operator AIS paused its acquisition of broadband units from Jasmine International as shareholders of one of the units did not approve conditions to enable AIS to change leasing optical fibre cables and payments.
In a statement to the Thai stock exchange, AIS detailed that shareholders of Jasmine Broadband Internet Infrastructure approved the deal, but did not approve AIS’ broadband unit to terminate rental assurances and marketing services agreements.
Shareholders were also against an increase in advance rental payment payable by Triple Y Broadband to Jasmine Broadband Internet Infrastructure. AIS stated the conditions are necessary to be competitive against Triple T Broadband.
AIS announced the deal in July stating the move would bolster its broadband offering and expand into more rural locations, a move key as rivals True and DTAC intend to merge.
