MTN and Orange Cameroon agreed to improve services by bringing forward their network upgrades for 2023 after subscribers [disconnected from their networks in protest](https://developingtelecoms.com/telecom-business/operator-news/14910-cameroonians-bemoan-the-state-of-mobile-services.html) due to poor quality of service.

The operators met with the Cameroonian minister of Posts and Telecommunications and the minister of the Telecommunications Regulatory Board, following staged protests where subscribers organised on social media to switch their devices to aeroplane mode simultaneously for hours.

Both operators have pledged in separate statements, to accelerate their 2023 network investment plans to bolster network quality and spread coverage. MTN also said it will publish a national progress report which will be updated when new mobile sites are deployed. Meanwhile, Orange will improve its complaints channel through response time.

MTN and Orange agreed to reimburse customers for unused data when their networks were down and will launch campaigns to inform subscribers how to avoid airtime losses and find the best deals.

MTN Cameroon CEO Mitwa Ng’ambi noted the operator faced challenges such as fluctuating availability of electricity and fibre, and that the operator will “continue to seek solutions for these with the respective stakeholders”.

Orange Cameroon CEO Patrik Benon said: "We wish to reiterate our commitment to go beyond our limits in order to enable each of you to better achieve your goals by means of the services we offer you".
