Reliance Jio hits 5G target early

Reliance Jio completed a nationwide rollout of 5G services ahead of schedule across 22 regions in India tapping into multiple spectrum bands, before the end of December as initially expected.

In a statement, the operator detailed that it conducted its rollout programme since being allocated spectrum bands on August 17, 2022.

On July 19, this year, Jio completed phase one of its minimum deployment obligation with the Department of Telecommunications, in all 22 regions by August 11.

Reliance Industries Mukesh Ambani hailed the benefits of mmWave spectrum, of which the operator holds 1,000MHz in the 26MHz band. “This can give enterprises looking to deploy emerging and innovative applications faster speeds and less delay than previous wireless networking technologies,” he said.

“mmWave business solutions will expand the market for leased lines by providing equally dependable fixed-wireless services, thereby digitizing millions of small and medium enterprises with enterprise-grade connectivity and business solutions. This spectrum is capable of providing ultra-high-speed broadband of up to 2Gbps.”

Ambani said the operator aims to deliver 5G to every town in India in less than 18 months, its 5G footprint has so far reached 2,300 cities and towns.
