Operator group Millicom announced its CEO Mauricio Ramos will be promoted to executive chair of the board, as former chair Jose Antonio Rios departs effective immediately.
In a statement, Millicom said Garcia resigned to “pursue other professional endeavours” after his tenure as chair from 2017 to 2019.
Millicom CEO Mauricio Ramos will take up the role of interim chairman of the board until Millicom’s next AGM in May.
Subject to shareholder approval, Ramos will assume the role of executive chair of the board of directors permanently. As well as board chair duties, he will gain certain key executive responsibilities, including oversight of matters involving external stakeholder relations, such as governments, joint venture partners, M&A, and legal, governance and regulatory matters.
Ramos will step down as chief executive to take on his new role. Atlas Investments has backed Ramos’ appointment as executive chair.
Millicom also announced Illiad VP Maxime Lombardini will join Millicom as President and COO, starting on September 1st.
