Thai mobile operator AIS has partnered with the Tourism Authority of Thailand (TAT) with a new campaign to boost the country’s tourism numbers by making mobile digital services easier to use.
The “TAT x AIS 5G: Welcome Back to Thailand” campaign campaign offers tourists “best-in-class digital services and communication systems in Thailand” provided by AIS via its Amazing Thailand SIM.
Under the campaign, TAT will distribute one million of these SIM cards at its TAT Asia and South Pacific regional offices to international travelers arriving in Thailand from 17 October 2023 to the end of March 2027.
The SIMs will be accompanied by exclusive e-voucher privileges from partner organizations. TAT will also use the SIMs as a marketing tool in collaboration with various international travel agencies, airlines, and associations.
The idea behind the collaboration, according to AIS chief consumer business officer Pratthana Leelapanang, is that tourists are increasingly using digital channels to access various services when they travel.
“This includes financial transactions, hotel reservations, shopping, and even government services,” he explained. “Additionally, there is a growing community of digital nomads who enjoy traveling and working from anywhere in the world. Therefore, having a seamless and smooth online connection is of utmost importance.”
The Amazing Thailand SIM provides high-speed internet with up to 8GB of data for a complimentary trial period. Travelers can also use the SIM to access news and sports content via the AIS Play app, as well as redeem points for free or discounted street food and shopping at popular tourist destinations such as Yaowarat Road.
According to TAT, over 20.3 million foreign tourists have visited Thailand this year, Of those, 14.7 million were from Asian and Pacific countries, particularly China, Malaysia, and India, marking a resurgence of tourist activity from those regions.
