MTS reportedly reconvenes tower sale talks

Russian mobile operator MTS has reportedly reopen negotiations to sell its tower company, reported Kommersant.

Sources speaking to the newspaper said the there are several buyers interested with tower infrastructure company Sistema named as one interested party, which already owns 42.09% of the operator.

Another option reported was selling to a consortium that includes Sistema, but no detail on the framework of this potential agreement was revealed.

MTS’ infrastructure unit Tower Infrastructure Company was created in December 2022. Its formation was behind schedule as the operator aimed to finish spin off at the beginning of 2022, with a swift sale in the first quarter to follow. Repored interested buyers then included Kismet Group, and Service-Telecom in partnership with Gazprom

As of 2021, Tower Infrastructure Company had 23,000 towers. MTS said in April it had halted negotiations.
