Sri Lankan operator Dialog Axiata connected over 200,000 users to its 5G network in a trial of the technology before a wider nationwide rollout.
Customers were able to tap into downlink and uplink speeds of up to 1Gbps, while also roaming in on the networks of 100 partner operators, in 50 locations.
The Axiata subsidiary claimed its current trial is Sri Lanka’s largest 5G trial spanning over 70 locations in the country.
The operator noted the trial also came with a a couple of 5G milestones. The the first Voice over 5G (VoNR) service on a standalone 5G trial in Sri Lanka was made, and the operator switched on 5G for iPhones.
To promote its 5G network, the operator gave compatible Android and iPhone users 5GB of free monthly data.
