Three of Uruguay’s leading operators have all procured spectrum in the country’s recent auction.
Movistar was the biggest spender, shelling out US$28.015 million, while state-backed Antel (Administracion Nacional de Telecomunicaciones) lodged a bid of US$22.412 million and Claro spent US$15 million. In total, the auction generated US$65.427 million.
Spectrum was available in the 1700MHz/2100MHz, 1800MHz and 2600MHz bands. These frequencies will allow the operators to boost their 4G offerings and eventually launch 5G services.
Five lots went unsold in the bidding.
