Cellcom confirms timeline for frequency migration

Israel’s Ministry of Communications has ordered Cellcom to start migrating its spectrum from 1st June 2020 so that it conforms to European standards.

The ITU (International Telecommunications Union) had previously instructed the MoC to begin aligning the frequencies used by Israeli operators with European specifications.

Cellcom has until 22nd March 2021 to replace its existing 850MHz spectrum – set to expire on 1st February 2022 – with 900MHz frequencies aligned with international standards.

The operator noted that the MoC “may further allocate [Cellcom] additional frequencies for limited periods during the transition period.”
