Symbiote Investments, which provides services in Jamaica as Caricel, has been refused permission to appeal a decision by the country’s Court of Appeal that revoked its operating licences.
In 2018, Jamaica’s Minister of Science, Energy and Technology revoked six licences that had been granted to Symbiote under the Telecommunications Act. As reported by TeleGeography, the minister acted on the recommendation of Jamaica’s Office of Utilities Regulation (OUR).
In response, Symbiote petitioned the country’s Supreme Court for a judicial review of the minster’s decision. After two years, the UK-based Privy Council has ruled against Symbiote, bringing the case to a close.
