A1 Belarus has purchased the assets of Multiservice Network LLC, a Soligorsk-based broadband and TV provider.
Owned by Austria’s A1 Telekom, the Belarusian operator has a multiservice offering and has been on a spate of acquisitions over the past couple of years, snapping up internet and cable TV operator Garant (JSC Vitebsk Oblast Techno-Trade Center Garant) in April 2018, followed by local ISP Belifonet in December that year.
As reported in TeleGeography, A1 Belarus stated that it would assume provision of Multiservice Network’s operations from 18th August 2020, providing users with equivalent price plans and “special conditions of service.”
Meanwhile in neighbouring Lithuania, Telia Lietuva has confirmed that it will wind down its 3G services in order to boost its 4G offering. This process will begin with the operator ceasing 3G operations in the 2100MHz band and repurposing the spectrum for 4G use.
Local outlet Verslo Zinios reports that Telia will shutter its 3G activities in this band across the entire country with the exception of major cities Vilnius and Kaunas, with Network Manager Arunas Strolia confirming that services would be wound down in these cities by the end of 2020.
He noted that 3G would continue to be offered via the 900MHz band, as long as consumer devices support this frequency. However, he added that Telia aimed to discontinue its 3G offering by the end of 2022 since its 4G network accounts for around 98% of all mobile data traffic.
