InterNexa invests in Colombian connectivity

Wholesale fibre optic connectivity services and infrastructure carrier InterNexa has announced a five-year US$100 million investment to strengthen connectivity in Colombia.

The country faces a challenge when it comes to extending fibre optic coverage; there are still a number of municipalities where penetration of fibre is low.

Therefore this investment is described by Andrés Sánchez, Country Manager of InterNexa, as key to strengthening connectivity and data centre infrastructure, and boosting the country's economic and social development.

A detailed timetable and further information on areas likely to be covered by the proposed connectivity plan do not yet seem to be available, but InterNexa reports that a goal has been set to connect between 5,000 and 7,000 new telecommunications towers to its fibre optic network, supporting both the adoption of 5G and the implementation of artificial intelligence solutions.

With more than 25 years of experience in the provision of telecommunications services, InterNexa has a focus on digital solutions such as connectivity, cloud, data centres, security and managed services. It has operations in Colombia, Argentina, Peru, Brazil and Chile.

InterNexa is also part of Interconexion Electrica or ISA, a Colombian company that is the largest electricity transmission company in Latin America; in fact InterNexa was originally launched to take advantage of ISA's electrical infrastructure and deploy telecommunications networks aimed at new companies and regions.
