Two Turkish companies have reportedly expressed an interest in acquiring a stake in Serbia’s incumbent operator, Telekom Srbija.
Investment groups Sabanci Holding and Dogus Holding currently have no involvement with the mobile industry. The former is focused on banking, cement, energy, insurance, and retail; the latter invests in similar areas as well as the automotive, construction, media and tourism industries.
Previous speculation has indicated that major telecom players – including Telekom Austria and Carlos Slim – could be interested in acquiring the Serbian incumbent. A sale is attractive for the country due to its increasing debt and deficit
The Serbian government has not yet held auctions for the operator, but it is looking to raise around €2 billion from the sale, according to local media. Telekom Srbija is the leading mobile operator in the market.
