Metfone acquires Beeline in Cambodia

Cambodian mobile market leader Metfone has acquired fourth-placed Beeline for an undisclosed sum.

The deal includes Beeline’s licences and infrastructure. Beeline will shut down its offering on March 24th, with all of its customers being transferred to Metfone.

The combined entity will have around 13 million mobile connections, with the deal reducing the number of Cambodian mobile operators to 5. The country has around 15.5 million connections.

Metfone, which has provided services in Cambodia for 8 years, is run by Viettel. The military-owned operator recently declared its intention to become a leading global provider by expanding into around 30 new markets. In addition to Cambodia and Vietnam, it also currently operates in Burundi, Cameroon, Haiti, Laos, Mozambique, Peru, Tanzania and Timor Leste.
