Bidder ruled out of Mexican wholesale tender

The Mexican government has disqualified one of the bidders for a tender to construct and operate a wholesale mobile network in the country.

The country’s Ministry of Communications and Transport stated that the bidder – a consortium of Rivada Networks and Spectrum Frontier – failed to meet a deadline for presenting a MXNX1 billion ($52 million) bid.

Following this development, the only remaining bidder is Altan, a group which encompasses the firms Megacable and Axtel. Despite the lack of competition, the tender’s winner will not be announced until the 17th November.

The Mexican wholesale network is aimed at covering a minimum of 85% of the population in an attempt to provide an alternative to the market dominance of America Movil.
