Cellcom pushes ahead with Golan liquidation request

Cellcom has confirmed that it will file a request for the liquidation of Golan Telecom, a few days after it initially revealed it was considering such a move.

In a statement, the Israeli market leader said: “The company filed today a request to appoint an interim liquidator to Golan Telecom and will file a liquidation request against Golan tomorrow (due to procedural reasons), following Golan’s failure to pay the company all due amounts.”

The liquidation request comes shortly after Cellcom demanded ILS600 million ($155 million) from Golan for national roaming services, and is made in addition to the ongoing legal action previously commenced by Cellcom.

The operator noted: “As previously reported, a substantial reduction of the future revenues from Golan will have a material adverse effect on the company’s revenues and results of operations.”

It was confirmed in a previous statement the Cellcom is discussing a network sharing arrangement with a currently unnamed third party that is believed to be interested in acquiring Golan. If these talks reach an agreement, it would allow for the resolution of Cellcom and Golan’s dispute.
