Nepal’s National Telecommunications Authority (NTA) has confirmed its selected spectrum bands for 5G use.

The Himalayan Times reports NTA spokesperson Meen Prasad Aryal as stating that the regulator had elected to follow the recommendations of the National Frequency Management Forum, an organisation created by the NTA, the Ministry of Communications & Information Technology (MoCIT) and telecom operators to identify 5G-suitable spectrum bands.

In the lower range, the forum has advocated using the 700MHz, 900MHz, 2300MHz and 2600MHz spectrum bands. In the mid-range, it has recommended the 3300MHz, 3400MHz, 3600MHz and 4100MHz, and for the high range the 26GHz band.

The National Radio Frequency Policy Determination Committee – which is chaired by the MoCIT - must now approve the NTA’s proposals before operators receive any spectrum allocations. CommsUpdate reports that the NTA will meanwhile conduct a study into 5G service deployment.
