Qatar’s Communications Regulatory Authority (CRA) has issued a QAR3.5 million (USD950,000) fine to Ooredoo Qatar for engaging in anti-competitive behaviour.
According to DohaNews, the regulator found that Ooredoo had refused to provide access to its international gateway facility at Al Kheesa Cable Landing Station as well as another of its data centres, violating the access and interconnection rights of licensed operators.
The CRA ruled that this contravention merited a fine of QAR2.0 million, but issued a further QAR1.5 million penalty as Ooredoo failed to obtain regulatory approval for its fixed service tariffs, which CommsUpdate notes is a contravention of Qatar’s consumer protection rules.
