PTA issues licences for regional 3G/4G spectrum auction

The Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) has issued NGMS (Next Generation Mobile Services) spectrum licences to the winners of its recent spectrum auctions for the Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK) and Gilgit Baltistan (GB) regions.

Telenor Pakistan, Ufone and Zong all obtained extra spectrum in the region to support their delivery of 3G and 4G services. In the 1800MHz band, two 2×5MHz blocks and five 2×1.2MHz blocks were available, while six 2×5MHz blocks were sold in the 2100MHz band.

In the 1800MHz band, each operator won a 2x1.2MHz block with Zong claiming the remaining 2x10MHz, beating out rival Jazz. In the 2100MHz band, Telenor won 2×15MHz for the reserve price of US$13.05 million.
