The Croatian Network Regulatory Agency (HAKOM) has launched a public consultation to discuss the future use of radio spectrum across multiple bands ahead of its planned allocation in late 2022/early 2023.
The spectrum in question is in the 800 MHz, 900 MHz, 1,500 MHz, 1,800 MHz, 2,100 MHz, 2,600 MHz, 3.6 GHz, and 26 GHz frequency bands.
The consultation, which lasts until 6 December, will gather feedback on market expectations for spectrum needs in the future, to help the regulator choose the optimal method of allocation of the spectrum rights.
The allocation of frequency bands is planned for early December 2022 and should be completed by the end of March 2023. Existing licences in the 800MHz, 900MHz, 1800MHz, 2100MHz, and 2.6GHz ranges expire in 2024.
Adjustment of existing and/or construction of new communication networks requires some time and therefore the new allocation of these bands must be carried out early enough to ensure the smooth operation of existing networks, without affecting the experience of the end-users, a notification from HAKOM said.
Also, there are still unallocated frequency bands in the Republic of Croatia that can be used for public mobile communications networks and depending on the interest of the market can be included in the allocation procedure with already mentioned bands in use, and part of the radio frequency bands available for allocation can also be used for certain private applications, such as industry, transport or agriculture.
