Reliance Jio has lost around 19 million wireless subscribers in September, whereas Bharti Airtel added 274,000 subscribers around the same time said Telecom Regulatory Authority Of India (TRAI).
TRAI also announced the total wireless subscribers in India have decreased from 1.18 billion in August to 1.16 billion at the end of September, registering a monthly decline of 1.74%.
The subscriber base of Airtel stood at 354.4 million in September as against 354.1 million users in August, while India's largest telecom operator Reliance Jio had 424.8 million mobile subscribers.
Troubled Vodafone Idea (Vi) lost 1.07 million subscribers during the month under review and its subscriber base shrank to 269.9 million as of September 2021.
The telecom regulator mentioned that private access service providers held 89.99% market share of the wireless subscriber whereas state-operated or public sector units (PSUs) MTNL and BSNL cumulatively held 10.01%.
The total telephone subscriber base declined 1.69% in September to 1,189.15 million from 1,209.58 million in August.
Further, in the broadband space, the total broadband subscribers decreased from nearly 81.35 Cr at the end of August 2021 to 79.5 Cr at the end of September 2021, with a monthly decline rate of 2.29%.
Trai had also stated earlier this month that Reliance Jio gave the highest download speed which was 20.9 Mbps according to TRAI's 4G chart, followed by Vodafone Idea which offered an average downloading speed of 14.4 Mbps, and Airtel which delivered 11.9 Mbps speed.
