Mexico could see a 5G spectrum auction later this year following the IFT (Instituto Federal de Telecomunicaciones)’s approval of its Annual Work Programme 2022.
The regulator has issued a statement confirming that spectrum in the 600MHz, 1500MHz (L-band), 3.3GHz and 3.5GHz bands will be made available for bidding in its next frequency auction, although it has not specified a proposed date.
The IFT will hold a public consultation ahead of the auction, and is currently in the process of drafting bidding rules, in addition to setting proposed coverage obligations, participation requirements and payment schedules.
