Tanzania calls out operators for subpar services

Tanzanian telecoms regulator TCRA called out operators Vodacom, Tigo, Airtel, Tanzania Telecommunications Company and Halotel for subpar connectivity services, particularly in 15 districts.

Ecofin Agency reported, that the TCRA met operators last week (July 12) to demand they provide in-depth plans on how they will improve the quality of voice, text and data services

TCRA principal telecom engineer Mwesiga Barongo said the regulator would conduct another assessment before the end of the year to see if the operators have improved services in regions deemed to have sub-standard quality.

Vodacom’s network director Andrew Lupembe said: “We are committed to making sure that we comply with all the instructions given to us by the authority, and we will make sure we follow all directives unremittingly as provided by our regulator.”

The order from the regulator comes after quality of service measures taken earlier this year, as demand for services grew in Tanzania.
