Kazakhstan’s 5G spectrum auctions have concluded, with both available blocks of spectrum acquired by the consortium of Kazakhtelecom subsidiaries comprised of mobile operators Kcell and Mobile Telecom Service (Tele2-Altel).
The Ministry of Digital Development, Innovation & Aerospace made two 1×100MHz blocks available, with the first in the 3600MHz-3700MHz range and the second in the 3700MHz-3800MHz range, with the reserve price for each set at KZT1.76 billion (US$3.8 million). Local media outlet Profit.kz noted that fierce competition saw the final bids for these lots escalate to KZT62.7 billion and KZT93.4 billion respectively.
In a statement made on behalf of the Kazakhtelecom consortium, MTS General Director Sergey Konkov pledged that the operators would build over 7000 5G base stations by the end of 2025.
