India’s 2G Auction Postponed Again and Fresh Doubts about Telenor

India's Supreme Court has granted the Government more time to carry out the auction for 2G spectrum but threatened contempt proceedings if there are any more delays. The allocation of licenses will now be complete next year. The auction is expected to close by the 11th of January.

The auction is likely to be the last chance for Uninor to pick up a 2G license. Another Indian Court ruled that its Norwegian parent, Telenor could not bid for licenses in conjunction with any other entities in the auction. This means that Telenor may be unable to jettison Unitech in time to bid with a new Indian joint venture partner.
