True Move tentatively backs 800MHz payment plan despite 700MHz clause

Thailand’s True Move has backed the NBTC’s proposed changes to the 900MHz licensing terms but appears hesitant due to a clause that would require it to bid in the country’s upcoming 700MHz sale.

The proposed changes would enable winning bidders to repay the cost of their 900MHz licences in ten instalments as opposed to the current limit of four payments. However, in exchange for this relaxation of the terms, winning operators would be obliged to bid in the 700MHz auction.

The process of changing the 900MHZ licence terms began last month at the behest of Thai Prime Minister Prayut Chan-o-cha, seemingly with the goal of attracting more participants to the 700MHz sale.

True Move has previously stated that it does not intend to bid in this auction, and has now said that it will assess the situation going forward. In a statement, the operator said that it would examine the “details of the criteria” for the 700MHz auctions and “consider all relevant factors” before reaching a decision.
