Research and Markets has released a report into China’s three major telecoms operators: China Mobile, China Telecom and China Unicom. The report is pitched as a look at the Chinese market following major reforms in 2008 and in part a progress report on Fibre and 3G and LTE.
A key finding has been consistent revenue growth as subscriptions grow, but declining ARPU and varying levels or profitability. The report found that this has led operators to pursue value added services in order to better monetise their subscriber base.
With 3G and LTE investment increasing, and ARPU decreasing, it will be interesting to see whether expanded subscriber bases and data growth will provide sufficient revenue growth to maintain profitability.
