Ericsson to expand local antenna manufacturing in India

Ericsson Antenna System (EAS), part of technology giant Ericsson, says it is expanding its local manufacturing footprint in India, positioning the country as a strategic innovation hub within Ericsson’s global network.

By June 2025, Ericsson says it will localise 100% of EAS passive antenna production for the Indian market. Ericsson explains that this strategic investment enables faster time to market, deeper collaboration with local partners, and greater adaptability to customer needs.

Mikael Eriksson, Head of Ericsson Antenna System, explains: “Expanding in India strengthens our ability to deliver cutting-edge technology at speed, closer to where our customers are building next-generation networks.”

In particular this initiative also supports India’s rapid 5G rollout. Reuters points out that demand from India's telecom companies surged in 2023 as Bharti Airtel and Reliance Jio started to scale up 5G services. This demand cushioned a slowdown of orders from the US, Ericsson's top market.

Reuters adds that passive antenna manufacturing will take place in Gurgaon – a city just southwest of New Delhi in northern India known as a financial and technology hub – together with Ericsson's local partner VVDN Technologies. VVDN describes itself as a global provider of software, product engineering, and electronics manufacturing services and solutions. Ericsson's logistics hub in Pune, a city in the western Indian state of Maharashtra, will support distribution and supply chain operations across the region,.

As well as meeting domestic needs, a significant portion of antennas manufactured in India will be exported, establishing the country as a strategic hub within Ericsson’s global supply chain.

The expansion of EAS production in India is fully managed by Ericsson teams and supported by a strategic supplier network.
