Global cloud communications company Infobip has been appointed by Ubongo, a leading African edutainment company, to implement a WhatsApp channel with its latest offering Answers.
Answers is Infobip’s chatbot building platform that, it says, uses the world’s most popular communication channels and provides faster customer support at a lower cost.
Ubongo creates localised and multi-platform educational media that reaches millions of families through accessible technologies. With more than two billion monthly active users, WhatsApp is ideally suited to Ubongo’s use case, says Infobip.
Ubongo calls itself ‘Africa’s biggest classroom’. The company delivers its programmes via TV, radio, and digital channels to millions of children across the continent – an important consideration when an estimated 250 million or more primary and secondary schoolchildren are out of school in Africa due to the ongoing pandemic.
The majority of Ubongo’s audience uses the WhatsApp chat application so the company can leverage its reach and low data costs to get content to its users and drive deeper engagement in three different languages – English, Swahili and Hausa.
This is the first time that Ubongo has offered its content as free downloads directly to its users, allowing them access to content on demand that will function offline.
This is not the only major agreement Infobip has highlighted recently. Earlier in October it announced a partnership introducing Zalo Notification Service (ZNS) to Vietnam. Zalo is a leading Vietnamese mobile messaging and calling application.
The new service provided by Infobip and Zalo allows companies or businesses to utilize ZNS for a wide range of customer-centric, personalized messages and inquiries including booking confirmations, banking transaction alerts, online order status updates, and payment reminders to name only a few.
Additionally, the partners claim, 68.17 million internet users in Vietnam can derive more flexibility and convenience from ZNS compared to traditional means of communication such as SMS, calls, or email.
