Redknee Launches Voucherless Top-Up Solution for Pre-Paid Wireless Subscribers

Redknee has announced the launch of Mobile Money Airtime Reseller which enables completely voucherless, pre-paid wireless airtime top-up. This addresses the needs of many high-growth / emerging market operators and subscribers. 

Traditionally, the purchase of pre-paid top-up minutes occurs largely through a physical voucher-based distribution system. The Mobile Money Airtime Reseller solution eliminates this reliance on physical retail vouchers or wireless phone cards, enabling reduced operator overhead and distribution costs, additional profit opportunities for resellers and, for the subscriber, a secure network for the affordable transfer of airtime minutes.  

The solution has recently been purchased by telecom management group MDC of Beruit. MDC needed a reliable and flexible charging alternative to the traditional top-up voucher, stated Hussein Rifai, Chairman of MDC. High-growth markets often require creative solutions to address unique business challenges, and we looked to Redknee to deliver the solution best suited to our distinct needs. 

Mobile Money Airtime Reseller distributes airtime from the operator to dealers and airtime resellers who trade directly with the pre-paid wireless subscriber using mobile handsets, eliminating the reliance on physical retail vouchers or wireless phone cards.  Once distributed to the dealer/reseller network, the airtime is sold and transferred to the end subscriber with a mark-up allowing the dealer and reseller to earn income. In addition to creating an entrepreneurial framework, the operator benefits from reduced overhead and distribution costs by eliminating the need to produce and support vouchers. This service is especially tailored for high-growth markets where issues of theft and fraud or the lack of retail infrastructure would otherwise hinder voucher sales and top-up capabilities. 

According to recent industry research, high-growth markets now comprise over 40 percent of wireless operator EBITDA and over 90 percent of growth, and mobile money capabilities are becoming an increasingly essential part of the subscriber¹s everyday life in these regions, said Lucas Skoczkowski, CEO at Redknee.
