New interconnection deal for Somaliland operators

New interconnection deal for Somaliland operators

Two of Somaliland’s operators, Somtel and Telesom, have agreed to enable interconnecting calls between their networks.

The Somaliland Chronicle reported that the deal was signed on 19th February following a series of meetings held at the Ministry of Information and Communication Technology. ICT Minister Abdiweli Abdillahi Soufi noted that the ministry had brokered the agreement between the two operators.

Soufi noted that the competition between the two providers affects “every side in telecoms, like pricing, subsidisation and the infrastructure. By taking those factors into consideration, the Ministry has developed interconnection regulations and a roadmap that will guide the telecom interconnection.”

He added that the service would launch within 40 days of the agreement being signed.
