Eagle Mobile, which has just commenced mobile operations in Albania, has formed an agreement with Kirusa to offer Voice SMS to its Albanian subscribers. This is stated by the two partners to be the first-ever deployment of a Voice SMS solution in Europe...
Eagle Mobile, the newest Albanian mobile operator, has launched its Voice SMS service across Albania, based on Voice SMS technology from Kirusa, a vendor of Voice SMS and developer of mobile Value- Added Services (VAS).
oice SMS allows subscribers to send messages by voice, eliminating the need to type. It enables those subscribers to communicate faster and with greater ease, and to convey emotions when compared to the limitations of text messages. Use of voice SMS by mobile subscribers is gaining global relevance for its benefits in surpassing the limitations of text messages.
Eagle Mobile subscribers just have to dial “*” followed by the number of the person they wish to send the message to, and speak a short message for up to 30 seconds in any language. The recipient gets a notification message from the sender and can click on a DirectListen number to directly listen to and reply to the Voice SMS left for him. Eagle Mobile subscribers can also dial *0* to hear new voice messages or retrieve previously listened voice messages by dialing *1*. Voice SMS messages can be replied to, forwarded, saved, or deleted. To send a Voice SMS, Eagle Mobile users pay a price of approximately US$0.17, including VAT.
Commenting on the launch, Alban Tartari, Head of Public & Media Relations Department at Eagle Mobile Albania, said, “We are thrilled to launch Voice SMS and to become the first operator in Europe to provide the Voice SMS solution to our subscribers. We believe that mobile users will find this service a value-add in their day-to-day conversations...”
Dr Inderpal Singh Mumick, CEO and Founder of Kirusa, remarked, “We are pleased that Eagle Mobile has chosen Kirusa to launch Voice SMS service on its network. With widespread adoption among users in Asia, Middle East, and Africa, we hope it would be successful in enriching people’s lives in Europe by providing them with innovative and easy ways to communicate.”
* Eagle Mobile is the youngest mobile operator in Albania. It was established on 23 October, 2003 by the Albanian government as a company owned by Alb Telecom. Eagle Mobile broke a record very shortly after it entered the Albanian telecommunication market on 12 March, 2008: the company achieved full coverage of its territory in six months. Eagle Mobile, as of 31 December, 2008, covered 97% of the population and 90.7% of the target territory. One year after entering the market, Eagle Mobile has reached 380,000 subscribers. Eagle Mobile’s Proring and Riniring tariffs resulted in a major success. For the first time in Albania pre- and post-paid numbers were integrated in the same tariff group. Eagle Mobile also brought EDGE to Albania, and via USB modem everyone can have access to the Internet on desktop or laptop if there is an Eagle Mobile signal. Lastly, Eagle Mobile is ready for 3G.
