Maroc Telecom launches Mobi Cash powered by Comviva

Maroc Telecom, the wireless and wireline telecom operator, has launched Mobi Cash, a fund-transfer system powered by Comviva, which provides mobile solutions beyond basic Value-Added Services.

Comviva’s mobiquity mCommerce solution enables mobile operators and financial institutions to offer mobile banking, mobile wallet and mobile payment services, ultimately delivering greater convenience to mobile subscribers. mobiquity is a secured platform with built-in connectivity to credit card payment gateways and APIs for banks, IN and open APIs for any application. It also provides a simple, cost-effective, secure and customer-oriented m-commerce solution that fulfills existing customers’ everyday requirements for banking services, payments and transactions – and extends access to financial services to previously unserved segments.

“Mobile telephony is redefining the world of commerce and impacting the way in which consumers pay for goods and services and carry out financial and banking transactions. We are focusing strongly on delivering m-commerce solutions for the rapidly growing markets because demand for transformational mobile financial services is significant,” commented Sabri Amireh, Vice-President, MENA Region, Comviva.

According to a study by Juniper Research, over 100 million users globally will use their mobile phones for international money transfers by 2013. The report also predicts that mobile international transfers will increase in frequency as users become more accustomed to the process. The opportunity for national and international money transfer services providers is estimated to exceed US$5 billion by 2013. The same study forecasts that the top three global regions - Western Europe, North America and Africa & Middle East - will account for more than 75% of the global international mobile money transfer gross transaction value by 2013.

“Mobile financial services are set to transform people’s lives and, as a pioneer in the mobile money space, we are very pleased to be a partner to Maroc Telecom with the Mobi Cash service – which marks a first in the Moroccan market. With our widely-deployed mobiquity™ suite powering the Mobi Cash service, we believe many Maroc Telecom subscribers will enjoy their first experience of mobile finance and become frequent users of the Mobi Cash service,” commented Manoranjan Mohapatra, CEO, Comviva.

* Maroc Telecom operates in Moroccan fixed-line, mobile and Internet. It has been listed on the Casablanca and Paris stock exchanges since December 2004 and its main shareholders are Vivendi (53%) and the Kingdom of Morocco (30%).

** Comviva has a portfolio of products and solutions that encompass content, commerce and community-related offerings. It has extensive expertise in delivering and managing mobile solutions that extend beyond VAS, powering solutions to mobile operators in more than 80 countries worldwide and reaching over 550 million subscribers globally.
