The South African mobile telecommunication market is one of the most developed and mature markets in Africa with a very high demand for mobile value added services. In order to meet this demand, the South African operator Cell C has selected MCTEL to deploy its device management platform on its network.

Cell C is one of the three largest operators in South Africa, and its numbers are growing. The MCTEL solution will support Cell C’s value added services by managing the settings of its subscribers’ device fleet, enabling VAS on their devices.

With a complete set of features, MCTEL Device Management Suite provides the essential information and tools to provide efficient VAS and increase revenue. The platform remotely detects and configures devices over-the-air, enabling services instantaneously.

“The platform is dimensioned to handle much higher levels of traffic than the legacy platform, and we have achieved great performance improvements. Critically for us, MCTEL offered an end to end solution that included the DMC, ADD, SIM OTA and an embedded SMSC on the same architecture”, explains Wellington Sibande, Senior VAS Manager at Cell C. “The MCTEL Platform will also offer new features like the web front end for self service, SMS self service, and OMA DM features.”

MCTEL Device Management platform also manages Cell C’s MVNOs, Virgin Mobile and a new player. This allows a crucial rationalisation of network resources for the operators. “Our platform is used by over 40 operators worldwide and we are pleased to count Cell C as one of them”, says Daniel Mavrakis, MCTEL President & CEO. “MCTEL is the only SIM-agnostic device management vendor - which means that our solution adapts to any SIM technology - which is unique on the market”.
