Indonesia launches Sigfox network

Indonesia is the latest country to introduce a Sigfox IoT network, with the recent official launch by Sigfox Indonesia of what it calls its 0G network for IoT operation in the country.

For the moment the Sigfox network will be available in the Greater Jakarta Area and Bandung. Initially it will offer two sensing devices: Personal Tracker, used for tracking vehicles and people, and Wallet Tracker, a form of employee ID monitored through apps. The company is also developing sensors and applications with local technology and IT firms for manufacturing industries, property developers, farming, fisheries and other sectors.

The planned IoT ecosystem will involve an MoU-backed collaboration with the Bandung Institute of Technology. Sigfox Indonesia will also seek collaboration opportunities with various sectors, communities, institutions and other corporations to enable a viable IoT ecosystem.

Sigfox Indonesia is the only Sigfox IoT network operator in Indonesia. Indonesia is one of 70 countries throughout the world connected to the Sigfox global IoT network, which covers one billion people. Sigfox says its network allows billions of devices to connect to the internet, in a straightforward way, while consuming as little energy as possible.

Sigfox’s representative, Roswell Wolff, president Sigfox Asia Pacific, described Indonesia as “one of our most important markets…” and noted “requirements are growing across all vertical sectors in Industry 4.0, smart cities, logistics and supply chain, automotive, and utilities, and backed by strong government support.”
