Vodafone Egypt deal enhances content on smartphones

As another reminder of the growing strength of OTT services in mobile-dominated markets, OSN, (Orbit Showtime Network) has signed a multi-year partnership with Vodafone Egypt.

OSN is an Emirati multinational direct-broadcast satellite provider serving the Middle East and North Africa, France, Spain, and the United Kingdom.

This is a partnership through which the OSN streaming app is available to all Vodafone customers. Subscribers to the postpaid Vodafone RED Plan now have complimentary access to the OSN streaming app and premium exclusive content available on the platform.

Vodafone customers with lower-cost plans won’t miss out, however; they will be able to subscribe through direct carrier billing.

The monthly cost of a RED subscription varies from EGP500-1000 ($31.7-$63.4). The RED offer has been substantially revamped in recent weeks. New offers include allowing RED customers to consume from their local bundle while outside the country, as well as a points reward system, and of course the OSN offering. It’s all been backed up with a stylish (and no doubt costly) ad campaign.

This strategic partnership gives Vodafone Egypt subscribers, through the OSN streaming app, exclusive access to original content from Disney Plus, HBO, Universal, Sony, MGM, and other Hollywood studios in addition to Arabic and Turkish productions.

Zahra Zayat, senior vice president of telco, digital and OTT at OSN highlighted the huge library of premium content on offer via the OSN streaming app, which allows viewers to watch programmes not only on a TV or computer but on a smartphone or tablet.
