Ascenty expands data centre presence in Brazil

Ascenty, a leading name in the Latin American data centre market, has announced that a second unit is now in operation on the company’s mega-campus in Vinhedo, a Brazilian city in the state of Sao Paulo.

A reported $150 million has been invested in the new 25,000 square metre data centre. Alongside an earlier development on the Vinhedo site, which opened in October 2019, the complex can now claim to have the largest data centre facility in Latin America, with 46,000 square metres and a total capacity of 70 MW.

Ascenty is a joint venture involving Digital Realty, a global provider of data centre, colocation and interconnection solutions, and investment company Brookfield Infrastructure that focuses on Latin American data centres and fibre connectivity.

It now has 17 units in operation – a total of 228 MW of energy and 148,000 square metres of raised floor – in addition to another five units under construction scheduled for activation in 2021. This will bring Ascenty's portfolio of data centres to 22, distributed across Brazil, Chile and Mexico.

However, the company isn’t finished with Vinhedo yet. “On this same campus we still plan to build another three large data centres,” says Marcos Siqueira, vice president of operations at Ascenty.

As we reported in November, the company recently announced the opening of the Chile 1 data centre in Santiago, the company’s first unit to start operating outside Brazil.
