Indian ICT service provider announces data centre plans

The continuing growth of India’s data centre industry shows no sign of slowing down. This time it's the Indian ICT service and solution provider Sify Technologies Ltd that has announced major plans.

The company says it plans to set up 200 MW capacity data centres over the next four years with a mix of hyperscale and retail facilities.

The new data centres will be in Mumbai, Delhi and Bengaluru, where the company feels the demand is expected in particular to be for colocation and cloud space given the concentration of financial traffic.

Entering the data centre market in 2000, Sify has over the years built and now operates ten carrier-neutral data centres, currently offering more than 70 MW at Vashi, Bengaluru, Chennai, Airoli, Noida, Rabale, Hyderabad and Kolkata.

The key features of its data centres are said to include strong connectivity with cloud cover and cost saving with cross connects; leading industry SLAs supporting colocation agreements; carrier-neutral services; earthquake-resistant structure; proven capability to meet 99.982 percent uptime; connectivity from major telecom carriers; and on-demand cloud and managed hosting services.

Through CloudCover, Sify also services a network of 49 data centres across India.

The company recently announced that its data centre at Vashi, Maharashtra, said to be the first commercial data centre in India, had completed 21 years of uninterrupted operations.
