Jazz Digital Park opens in Pakistan

The Jazz Digital Park (JDP), named after leading Pakistan operator Jazz, was formally inaugurated by Kaan Terzioğlu, the CEO of Jazz owner Veon Group, this week.

The JDP, a form of data centre, established with an investment of over $8 million, is located in Islamabad, and aims, Veon says, to accelerate the country’s digital transformation ambition by significantly improving the existing level of IT services being provided to various sectors.

With a current capacity of more than 300 racks, expandable up to 450 racks, and a 3-megawatt power infrastructure, JDP is Pakistan’s largest Telecommunications Industry Association (TIA) Tier-III certified data centre in terms of white space and power capacity.

Jazz will use this digital park to offer secure IT infrastructure and hardware hosting facilities to businesses as well as local startups. JDP will also be hosting the new cloud platform about to be launched by Jazz. The park is also being described as a significant step forward in the hosting of locally created data.

Jazz Digital Park is equipped with four-directional fibre connectivity, 100 per cent redundancy for all power and cooling systems, a bus trunking system, a VESDA smoke detecting system, and a performance optimized data centre solution to reduce its carbon footprint.

These state-of-the-art features fulfil all operational requirements for a business, including 24/7 customer service, security, and system backups, says Veon.

Jazz also plans to facilitate the country’s start-up ecosystem by offering cloud credits under its premium start-up accelerator programme Jazz xlr8 at the National Incubation Centre.

According to the Data Centre Dynamics website, Veon, which also owns Russia's VimpelCom/Beeline, Ukraine's Kyivstar, and Sri Lanka's SLTMobitel – recently concluded a $1.2 billion round of bank financing.
